Pulling Film: This technique is the exact opposite of pushing. Then when you develop the film, you leave it in the developer longer, which produces a brighter image with more contrast. For example, you would push 160 Film to 320, often by taking a shorter exposure. Pushing Film: This refers to setting the camera for a higher ISO than it says on the box and shooting the full roll at that setting. It can also be a way to get some benefits out of otherwise expired color film as the shift to digital has greatly reduced the production of a wide range of Fuji and other film stocks. In the simplest terms, pushing and pulling color film involves either taking a picture with either underexposure or overexposure, and then correcting the exposure in the development stage. Its especially useful for action shots where you need to capture rapid motion with a very fast shutter. High Sensitivity: The advantages of going with more light-sensitive Fujifilm products is that they give you options when you cant simply reduce the shutter speed or widen the aperture. One advantage of this film is that its generally less grainy, so images are often sharper. Low Sensitivity: Less sensitive Fujicolor film requires more light to produce a picture so its normally used in brighter conditions, although you can also go with a slower shutter or wider aperture to get more light onto your film.Unlike the other two factors, which control how much light gets into your camera, sensitivity deals with how the film reacts to light. It works in conjunction with the aperture and shutter speed to determine the overall brightness of the image. It usually ranges from a low of about 100 to a usual high of about 1600, although digital can go considerably higher if need be. More than just a number on the box, its a general standard for measuring the light sensitivity of camera film. While shooting film doesnt give you all the capabilities you get when using digital and photoshopping, there are a number of things you can do with it in order to make a picture your own. Before photography went digital, people captured all visual memories on film. ![]()
